I have always felt that London and Paris were twinned, with London the male, practical and determined, and Paris the female, beautiful and capricious. I painted this after a couple of nights in Paris, the December before lockdown. It was inspired by the Marigny Garden in front of the glorious La Réserve hotel, which I was reviewing at the time.
